BEST Florence hotel areas - Uffizi / Duomo / Palazzo Strozzi ?

we have found a few 3 & 4 star hotels in these areas in our budget range...
which areas are best to stay in.
we only have 3 nights in florence & want to be in the best location to walk everywhere...but we also want to be in a safe area.
your suggestions are appreciated!
THANKS

Florence is quite compact and all of the areas you mention are in good locations to walk everywhere you will want to go. The Uffizi area couldn't be more centrally located to see all of the sights of Florence.

We just spent a week in the Duomo area and we were thrilled with the location.

Friends stayed at Loggiato dei Serviti, a 16th century monestery, near one of Florence's quietest and lovliest squares, Piazza San Marco. In Piazza Santissima Annunziata,3

Highly reccomended by Fodor's in 1999. They raved.

My mother just returned from a stay at the Machiavelli hotel in Florence. Near the train station/Duomo. She said it was just far away enough from the train station where it felt fine, and the location was within walking distance to everything. She really liked the hotel and said she'd return again in a heartbeat. It's on Via Nazionale. I am booking it for an October trip. I've also heard rave reviews about the Monna Lisa hotel.
