Best/cheapest way from Paiano to Naples for four?

Hello. We will be staying in Praiano for 7 days & one of the day trips we will be taking is to Naples. We have a car but were advised not to drive near Naples.

So I know we can take the bus from Praiano to Positano & then the boat from there to Sorrento. (I hope, as we'll be there the first week of April). I believe it will cost about 7 euro each. Then the boat from Sorento to Naples. I believe that will cost about 8 euro each.

Since there are four of us that is 15 euro each times 2 for round trip & times that by 1.5 to get the dollar total & it comes out to $180.00.

It seems a bit much. Especially since we were thinkng about going to Naples twice during the week. Maybe I am making a mistake somewhere. I did not look at trains yet as everyone recommends the boats. They will be more scenic & maybe quicker.

Perhaps we could drive to Sorrento, find a place to park & boat to Naples from there. So that is my question as I know many of you have probably done this before. What do you think is the best way for my family to get from Praiano to Naples? Thanks for your help.

Hi Dbacks.
I'm sure you'll get great information from other posters like Steve_James, who gives dependable info, but here's the 2 things I've done in the past.

Drive to Sorrento and park in the public lot at the Via Capo end of town for the day and walk to the dock for the boat to Naples. (There's a parking garage on the dock down to the docks but it's expensive, although with 4 people it might work out for you)

Drive or Bus to Meta (town outside of Sorrento) and Park there to take the Circumsuviano train into Naples (Boats are nicer, but I'm used to the commuter train, so it's not a big deal to me)

The Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples would probably be cheaper than the boat. You must weigh cheaper versus faster.

Would it be easier to travel to Salerno (via boat or bus) and take the train from there? Only one connection . . .

ellenem, Interesting idea, I've never tried that one!
To do it from Praiano Dbacks, if you want the boat to Salerno option, you'll still need a bus to Amalfi - 3 connections (Bus, Ferry, and Train) but maybe possible!

Hi D,

You can

take the SITA bus to Salerno via Amalfi and the train to Naples,

take the SITA bus to Meta and the Circumvesuviana train to Naples. For the return, take the C train to Sorrento.

A driver will cost about 100E each way to Naples.

I would drive to Sorrento and park and take the Circumvesuviana to Naples. The round trip fare is very cheap - 7 - 10 euro?

If you choose the drive plus Circumsuviana method, Dbacks, better to park in Meta and take the Circumsuviana from there, the stop is closer to Naples, and you'll save alot of time by avoiding the heavy traffic going in and out of Sorrento, which is the last stop for the Circumsuviana train.
