Best 2 places to visit from Madrid

Hello. We are a family of five that will be in Madrid for 5 days this July. I would like to see a few places outside of Madrid, perhaps 2 separate day trips, and am thinking of Toledo and Segovia. Are there any other places I should consider?
Thanks so much,

Toledo is tops hands down to most folks

Segovia would be right up there - kids will love the castle that Walt Disney in part used for his Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disney films and Disneyland.

Avila is another popular day trip - especially for those interested in Catholic saints. Aranjuez is a neat palace near Madrid and El Escorial is another nice palace not far out.

But I think Toledo and Segovia would top my list.

Toledo is great. I really want to see Segovia, but on a recent trip to Madrid we chose to give Toledo an overnight rather than doing two day trips. There is a certain magic to the place after the sun goes down.

The Toledo Hilton is incredibly nice and affordable (some describe it as the finest Hilton at which they have ever stayed). It has a nice pool. Unfortunately it is outside the old city, about a mile away, so the hotel runs a free shuttle bus every hour for the first nine or so guests who sign up. Otherwise you have to take a taxi.

If you want to see the Valley of the Fallen near Segovia you might want to rent a car. I couldn't quite figure out if there was any way to get there without a car or without spending a lot of money on a tour.

With a family of 5 I'd spend the entire 5 nights in Madrid and do 2 daytrips. I agree with the others - my top daytrips would be Toledo and Segovia.

It will be very warm in Madrid in July, as usual, so you may want to consider heading for someplace a little cooler, which means Segovia would be tops on my list. Or La Granja if you have a car.

Sergovia for sure and then any of the several others listed..I's rake CathyM's advise day trips from MAD!!! If you stay in Segovia try Infante Isabella..nice place and if you have a car valet parking..Just drive on up to the door even though the sign says no cars..hotel traffic is exempt. Until relatively recently the acqueduct was still being used.. Amazing!!!
