Bernkastel, Koblenz, Würzburg and Bamberg Questions - Very Specific!
Hi. I have a couple very specific questions. If you guys don't know, I'll try the local tourist information centers, but here goes:
Bernkastel: Is there any way to get up to the Burg Landshut after 5 PM? I know there is a "andshut Express" but it only runs until 5 or 6. Is there another option?
Koblenz: Has anyone been to the Festung Ehrenbreitstein (fortress) recently? Is it possible to get up there by bus after 5 pm (and back, of course!). Is it closed, or partially closed? It looks like they're doing construction up there, with only one entrance open, so I didn't know if that affected things.
Würzburg: Is there a bus that goes up to Festung (fortress) Marienberg, which is the fortress on the other side of the river from the Residenz? I posed this question separately and got some good responses, including how much time and effort it would take to get there, but I was hoping to find out if a bus goes there. If not, does anyone have any idea what a cab would cost, and where I could catch one? I'll be in the vicinity of the Alte Mainbrücke.
Bamberg: I'll be on a river cruise (Viking Fontane, but other similar ships from AMA Waterways, Avalon, etc. visit Bamberg, too.). Do those ships just tie up along the Main-Danube Canal somewhere, or along the Regnitz (Pegnitz?), or dock at the commercial dock (hafen) area of Bamberg? If the latter, about how long of a walk might it be to the Rathaus in Bamberg?
Thanks much for any help you can give! I know these are hard questions!

There are several buses that run from the train station to the Marienberg Festung. You can look up the connections on Die Bahn:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
Start: Wuerzburg HBF
Destination: (Select POI instead of Station/Stop) Wuerzburg, Festung Marienberg
You also look up the bus connections from any address in town. At the "Start" line select "Address" in place of "Station/Stop" and then Wuerzburg, Street #
I am not sure about the fare. We walk up. Looking back at the views of the city is one of my favorite parts of visiting Würzburg.
Regards, Gary

Thank you very much, Gary. I didn't think to look for a bus schedule on bahn.de. I'll look at your link after I finish this. Bahn.de is great!
Also, I forgot to ask this Rüdesheim question, above, just out of curiosity: Bingen and Rüedesheim look like very pretty places. On Google Earth, I did not see a bridge across the water there. Is there one, or how do people get across?!

Thanks again, Gary. I looked at the site, put in (as an example) Residenzplatz to Festung Marienberg, and it showed that there's a bus that takes about 19 minutes. I believe it was the #9, and it ends up somewhere on Obererstrasse of the festung, and then I walk for a minute. If you have time, could you take a peek at the map and see if you can tell me generally where that will get me - really only a minute or two's walk to the festung? Also, what does "richtung" mean? I think it's telling me to look for bus 9 in the direction of Festung Marienberg, but I wanted to make sure I understood.
I don't mind walking up there, but my husband probably won't be able to, so that's why I'm looking for a bus!

The Bus 9 goes directly to Marienberg Festung from Julius Promenade and other points. Its termination point is Schönborntor on Oberer Bergweg. Schönborntor appears to be one of the gates to the castle; I looked up on another website to confirm. Die Bahn is usually accurate about walking times, one minute in this case.
"Richtung" means direction just as you assumed.

Rüdesheim answer - no, there isn't a bridge at that point in the river. There are bridges at Wiesbaden and Mainz-Kastel (a part of Mainz on the same side as Wiesbaden, further east), and a car ferry which I think goes from St Goar to St Goarshausen. I think there may be one to Bingen as well. There would be other ferries, but that one is pretty close to Rüdesheim, so try googling.
