Berner Oberland + Matterhorn or just Berner Oberland?

My wife and I will be arriving in Zurich on June 18 and will be departing again on the 23rd (about 4+ days of sight seeing total). From all of the posts here it looks like the Berner Oberland / Jungfrau area is a must see for such a short stay. We're thinking of staying in this area only (to thoroughly enjoy it as best we can) rather than to spend more of our time on trains going to see, for example, the Matterhorn, Lake Geneva, etc. Would you all agree or do you have other suggestions for a 4+ day stay in beautiful Switzerland? Thanks!

I would have no trouble filling 4+ days in the Berner Oberland, there is plenty to see and do and it is all majestic and beautiful. The Matterhorn area is a whole other excursion as you have apparently learned, its nice and all but remote, which is a large portion of its attraction. I suggest you save it for another time. Concentrate on your opportunities and enjoy the Berner Oberland.

Hi westman,

Yes, I agree with macanimals above.

In addition to dealing with the 2+ hours of transport in each direction, you have to realize how quickly weather changes in the Alps. When you leave the Jungfrau region, it might be clear and sunny in Zermatt -- but by the time you arrive, the views might be totally clouded up.

Yes, there is really plenty to do in the Oberland to keep you busy for only four days. Walking, hiking, mountaintop restaurants . . . just memorizing those views!

Have fun!

I agree with the other posters - loads to do in the BO. There's a reason so many of us keep going back.

Hi Westman,

I agree, with 4 days I'd stay in the Berner Oberland. I doubt you'll be wanting to leave.

IMO the Berner Oberland is one of MANY so-called "must-sees" in Switzerland and like the others I would spend my entire time there; come back and visit the others on a different trip.
