It might be too cold for that.
Most dutch people only wear shorts, bermudas etc. in summer.

If blue knees (from being cold) are appropriate then go ahead. Even if it is warm-ish it won't be hot enough to require shorts.

He will see shorts - but probably only on one or two other misguided men on your same coach tour. Take long pants . . . . .

Most Dutch people really don't care what you wear. Just look at how they dress in Amsterdam. And today is much warmer than it was in August, so you never know. But generally, September is not shorts weather. It might be warm during the day, but it's definitely very chilly in the morning and evening.

We were in Holland in July and August and got rained on every day and we were quite cold. Take long pants in addition to the shorts, he will be happy he did. Barb

No bermuda shorts in September.

July is speedo with an afro wig. August is jock strap with a sailors hat. September is pink thong with a cowboy hat.

You all are too funny!!

This brings back a painful memory of my childhood. I can still see my Dad walking around in beige plaid polyester bermuda shorts. Dad sure knew how to turn some heads.

Oh, the shame....

Then one time Dad was at the airport and they were filming a scene from a campy 70's movie called "Rollercoaster." They were looking for extras to walk around the airport. Dad wanted to participate, but he was wearing the afore mentioned bermuda shorts, so the director stopped him and said, "Sorry sir, those shorts are too distracting." We always told Dad that his bermuda shorts kept him out of the movies.

Iris, just say no. my better half did and i am now thankful for it.

oh, just saw you are already gone. if you are in holland and reading this, and the bermudas are packed, just don't let him wear them.

PM, the story about your dad's shorts is great. a good **dad story*** is priceless.

(But, Iris, having a good dad story is still not reason enough for your husband to wear the shorts, lol)

From what we saw in the Netherlands in June and July, just about anything goes most places. Assuming, of course, that the shorts would not be worn to a fine restaurant, concert, and such.

Fathers and clothing:

Oh, my poor old father's wardrobe! He's really too old now for sartorial splendor and the effort it takes, but in his hayday, he was something to see.

Golf outfits in which every piece was of a matching color: he would emerge in pink, or blue, or green, or lilac, or red, or yellow, from head to toe. Seriously. All of the same tone, hat to shoes. Egads! We used to just look at him and shake our heads.

My dad is quite a formal English chap (shirt and tie and pretty much all times unless gardening) and in the summer he has a month where he will emerge in a massive baggy pair of bermudas. I think it's still the same pair from when I was a kid. Match it up with skinny 'string with a knot in' legs with knobbly knees, all the colour of a sheet of pure white paper. Dazzling.

Bit late now, since iris and her husband will already be there, but it's possible to check current daywear in Amsterdam at www.terena.nl/webcam

Who knows, if there is somebody in bermuda shorts, it might be iris's husband.

SurferX, thanks for explaining that. I wondered why they all looked at us so strangely in Amsterdam. Now I find out we were wearing August attire in July. No wonder!
