Bergamo or Como (or both?) for 3 nights

First-time visitors to Northern Italy. After spending 2 nights in Venice, my husband and I have 3 more nights before leaving for Stockholm (most likely from Milan). We were originally going to spend all 3 nights in Como but Bergamo also sounds interesting. We are in our late 30s/early 40s and we do not care for nightlife or shopping (we enjoy places like Taormina, Interlaken, etc). Milan is going to have to be just a day trip from either base. Can anyone please suggest how to split our time between Bergamo, Como and Milan? Should we just spend all 3 nights in one place?

When is your trip? Advice might be different depending on the season/month.

I prefer Bergamo over Como, but for three nights I'd probably pick Como for access by ferry to other towns on Lake Como.

But I'd pick either Varenna or Bellagio over both Bergamo and Como.

We're arriving Venice on September 30, leaving for Bergamo or Como on October 2 and staying until October 5.

Wish we could stay longer but the rest will have to be for "next time".
