Bergamo for New Years Eve?
Does anyone have an opinion on spending New Years in Bergamo? I'm trying to make plans right now for a solo trip in Dec/Jan (single girl traveling; 28 years old), and I'm not sure how the vibe would be in this town.
Clearly, I'm not looking for something wild-- I'd go to Rome, or stay in Paris for that. However, I would like to have some nightlife options instead of ringing in the New Year solo in my hotel room.
Any thoughts? I noticed a comment on another post about the crowd changing at weekends and holidays, but I wasn't sure what the reference meant.
Thx!

Doubt this is helpful, but maybe interesting. A couple of years ago in September we were in Bergamo. It seemed at night and especially over the weekend a great number of young people appeared. We didn't get much sleep while there because we enjoyed hanging out the B&B window and watching all the fun. Hope you get some helpful information.

I also can't help with the New Year's Eve aspect, but I will say Bergamo is one of the more charming towns of its size that I've been to in Italy. A beautiful main piazza, a couple of interesting museums, a couple of interesting churches, nice shopping and restaurants. I can recommend the Hotel Piazza Vecchia, but if this is a little out of your budget range, there are many hotels and B&Bs. Do stay in the Citta Alta if possible.

Thanks to you both! As it turns out, I might be flip-flopping my plans and staying in Paris for New Years, and then heading to Bergamo for the 1st week in January. But nevertheless, I appreciate the information because I've never been before.

I went to Bergamo by myself in March and I don't think I could have spent a week there. Perhaps 2 days max.
Suppose it all depends how much people watching and hanging about you are interested to do - when I'm travelling solo I find the cities easier.
