Berchtesgaden to Prague - stop in Germany?

Hello friends,
My family is spending a day in Salzburg, and then we want to see the Alps in Berchtesgaden. Then, we need to go to Prague. I was wondering, does anyone think there is a town, city, or sight in Germany that we should see on the way back? We will have a car and we don't want to add too much time to the drive. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!!

I'd suggest stopping in Hallstatt if you really want to experience the rugged Austrian alps and not the relatively diminutive German ones and Hallstatt is just off main roads to Prague via Karlovy Vary. Maybe you want to see the Eagle's Next, etc for Hitler's views and reiics

I immediately thought of Hallstatt in Austria also. It's a gorgeous lake and village and a lovely spot to spend the night if you can. It's magical after the day trippers leave. You can visit the ice caves there and they also have salt mines although we didn't go to the ones near there as we had already been to the ones near Berchtesgaden. Perhaps you could do some research and see which ones you'd like best. St. Wolfgang and/or St. Gilgen also would be lovely.

Karlovy Vary/Karlsbad?
May be Palen means Krumlow/Krumau.

So, you are traveling from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden and then to Prague. From Prague, to where in Germany are you heading, "on the way back?" The whole of Bavaria and the Salzkammergut is rich with charming destinations, but without understanding your travel itinerary it is difficult to suggest places that might be of interest.

We are, tentatively, going to leave Salzburg in the morning and spend a couple hours in Berchtesgaden looking at the Alps. Then, we would drive to Prague, but we were considering stopping somewhere in Germany along the way for the night to split up the drive that would be 5 hours and also see some more of Germany. Any suggestions?

Passau at the confluence of three Alpine rivers is a really neat town that few seem to consider - not sure it is on the direct route to Prague however.

How about Regensburg? Lovely walled city can be done as an overnighter.
