Bed & Breakfast in Paris for one night

"..it's not going to be much fun for the OP getting there and back..."
One night stays in any city are no fun for me. I simply don't understand the idea that getting "there and back" is somehow difficult. It's near Gare du Nord, not Siberia.
Stevefahrner, don't let them scare you off if it's where you want to be. Every time I've tried somewhere else I've wished I'd been in Montmartre.

Jamikind doesn't post on here much anymore but she used to recommend a good, clean, reasonable hotel near Gare du Nord. She and Bikerscott have often stayed there. Anyone remember? Jamikins, are you out there?

If I were only in a city one night, I'd probably stay near that point to get to the airport easily, also (Gare du Nord). There are plenty of decent hotels around it, even if the area itself isn't exactly worth exploring in depth as a tourist. But for one night, who cares, you aren't even going to unpack really, and it certainly is convenient for metro/RER lines.
I don't think Montmartre is convenient for one night, either, at least not in the areas where I would like to be, which are not near Gare du Nord. The part of the 18th near Gare du Nord is not whe3re I would want to stay, and yes, I've been there (but have not stayed there as I don't want to). And the problem is other parts of Montmartre are not even on a direct metro line to Gare du Nord (eg, Anvers or Abbesses stops).
On the other hand, if you don't take the RER to the airport, Montmartre wouldn't be a bad location at all as it is on the north side of the city, so taxi commute is lower. Then, I'd think it would be a fine idea. It often takes more than 1 minutes between stops, also, often 2-3. So from Abbesses, it takes about 20 minutes to get to Concorde, and that involves no metro changes. But if you just want to see Montmartre, then it wouldn't matter.
