We will be staying in Bayeux early April for one night. Any suggestions where to stay? Ideally, we would like something charming, clean and friendly (we don't speak much French).

I've read about Hotel l'Argouges (sp?). Anyone been recently? Other suggestions are welcome.

M<y brother-in-law was satisfied with the Hotel D'Arrouges (sp?). It is right in town. Also nice is the Chaateau Bellefontaine. within walking distance of town. Beautiful grounds, reasonable price.

You didn't mention price as a factor, therefore I will mention the Chateau de Sully...dripping with charm.

With one night, I recommend staying in town. The Hotel de Argouges is well located and very nice.

Sorry, forgot to mention price. Looking for something inexpensive to moderate (around 100E or less, if that is possible)

Does anyone have a website/email for the Chateau Bellefontaine?

Would certainly agree that with Powell. My wife and another couple stayed there for one night- took train down from Paris. It was very nice- felt almost like a private home! You walk from it and you are right in the center of the town... near Cathedral and Bayeux Tapistry and some nice restaurants.

It's only 800 meters from town, but it's in a park-like setting with rose bushes, a rushing stream, cows in a nearby pasture, etc. That's what we loved about it - you could walk into town in 7 minutes but at night be in a bucolic setting.

It's Chateau d'Argouges, and we loved it. A renovated manor house set back from the main street. We had a very comfortable room facing the back gardens. Very quiet. Friendly and helpful staff.

We have reservations for C d'A in May, but I can't find a website; seems as though I saw one not too long ago?

And I just realized that the Chateau d'Argouges is different from the Hotel d'Argouges. The chateau is not in Bayeux and is pricier, as I understand it.

Oops, you are correct, Grandmere. We stayed at the Hotel d'Argouges in Bayeux, not Chateau d'Argouges.
