Bavaria - Black Forest
I'm traveling from Munich to the Black Forest and would like to overnight. I've been before, but can't remember the name of the town. My memories are of strong scented alpine evenings with thick forest all around the small town. Any suggestions?

The Black Forest is not in Bavaria, not in the Alps, and not that close to Munich. Travelling there takes several hours each way, even with an overnight this would be a very rushed trip. If you remember an "alpine" setting this was probably in the Bavarian Alps, not in the Black Forest. The Alps are much closer and going there would make a lot more sense.

For alpine views, I'd opt for Berchtesgaden which is much closer to Munich.
In the Black Forest, we have stayed in Staufen and Gengenbach -- both are charming little towns. Freiburg's old town is also very nice but it is a big city.

I see that BettyK and I have once more crossed trails in Deutschland. I too recommend Staufen, but I haven't been to Gengenbach.
Staufen has the most charming main street in the world, with a very small channel running down each side of the street. There's a hotel there that claims that their room 15 is the very room from which Faust was snatched off to hell by Mephistopheles.
There is a cute little outdoor bar at the base of the street.
