Basel, Switzerland geography

How far is the center of town (Town Hall, etc) from Dreilandereck, the dock for the cruise ships? If we are taken directly to ship from airport do we have to take a cab downtown or is it walkable? Not a fan of figuring public transportation in foreign towns so tram is out I am thinking

Have you checked googlemaps or any other online mapping service? I think it's too far to walk....

As I recall, it's about 15 minutes by cab. I wouldn't try to walk it.

According to google maps it's 3.5 km on foot along the river, or 4.2 km and 17 min by car/cab. You have to walk 1 km to get to public transport.

It's a 15-minute cab ride - there is no bridge right at the Dreiländereck in Kleinhüningen, so traffic has to cross close to downtown, at the Dreirosenbrücke (bridge), but it's no biggie - just hop a cab, hang the expense.

The above link offers some solid advice on taking a tram to Basel from the port.

And also says that there is a long walk from the tram stop to the boat or v.v.

Which part of Basel would you most like to see? What do you want to do? There are historic neighborhoods as well as the center of town around the Marktplatz. And what day of the week are you planning to head in? Are you planning to get something to eat while you're in town?

I've done the Basel train station to the river cruise dock trek in the past. I would advise as others have said: take a taxi from wherever. The tram is not going to get you "that close" IMO and considering how much you probably PAID for that cruise I think you could cut corners elsewhere but to each their own.
