Base in Switzerland?
Hi,
We are planning to spend 4 nights in Switzerland with a couple of day trips to major tourist attractions in Switzerland before driving to Venice. We will have our car, so being close to a train station or a staying in a city is not a criteria. I am looking for a budget apartment hotel kind of accommodation with free car parking and kitchen where I can do our laundry and wind down after a hectic two week travel in Europe. Please suggest any apartment preferably in a small quiet town. Thanks for your help.

Where from will you be arriving in Switzerland? The major tourist attractions are spread all over Switzerland. And unlike it seems (from a look at a map) getting from point A to point B in Switzerland can be time consuming due to mountains/lakes.
Many private rental apartments come with laundry facility, all of them have kitchens and most of them are in quiet location. Check out www.interhome.ch (I am sure English is available) and select a canton that you're interested in. Please note that many apartment owners require a one-week stay. Or pick a town that you like and have a look at their website, like www.<insert town>.ch - they have lists of apartments on their websites.

Thanks Ingo. We will be arriving at Switzerland from Salzburg. Luzern appears to be a convenient location.
Perhaps we can stay in/around Luzern, make a day trip to Interlaken.
We have another day here, is there any other place which would be a convenient day trip from Luzern? Geneva seems out of bounds from this location.
If Geneva is a must do, then we can do a overnight stay there before getting to Venice.
Any thoughts on this? Suggestions welcome. We can add a day here and there if necessary! Thanks!

Four nights isn't a lot of time to wind down and do a couple of day trips. Especially when owners are reluctant to rent for less than a week, especially in high season in attractive areas. Perhaps you should be a little less ambitious.
For convenience to Venice, you might want to look at the Engadine (the southeast of CH) which has plenty of scenery, but not many well known tourist sites. One of the most scenic places in CH is around Lauterbrunnen, and they do have rentals there. It would be convenient to Interlaken and Brienze, Thun (a lovely town with not many tourists) and even Luzern. Lauterbrunnen is in a valley between some of the most scenic mountains, and I would think you would find it so attractive that you would want to limit your day trips.
Driving to some of the mountain attractions in CH is often an expensive proposition, as many are car-free and require you to park in an expensive lot relatively far from the village.
