Barcelona with kids in June
We will be in Barcelona for 3 days with kids before starting a cruise in June. Can anyone help with kid-friendly places or areas to stay and eat? Also attractions, Dad will prob be with the kids while mom shops. How about getting from the airport to the docks/hotels?

Cheapest way airport to hotel is by train. Not recommended in your situation. I would recommend for you taking the Blue Bus that waits for travelers right outside the Terminal Baggage Claim area and takes them to Plaza Cataluña. YOu can then walk/bus to your hotel.
What age range are your kids?

BTW, you do NOT have to stay close to the Cruise docks. No matter where you stay in BCN you will likely take a taxi anyway. I paid 6 Euros for a taxi ride from Eixample neighborhood (north Plaza Cataluña) to the ship.

Perhaps stay in the medieval, charming and popular El Born area. Close to "everything" and 10 mins walk from the Barceloneta beach.

El Born is very close to the large Ciutadella Park with a lake (boats for hire) and the Barcelona zoo:

About the Zoo: http://www.barcelona.com/barcelona_c.../barcelona_zoo
My nephews were thrilled by the quite spectacular aquarium some months ago: http://www.aquariumbcn.com/AQUARIUM/index.php?wlang=en
Take the funicular up to the Tibidabo fun fair:
http://www.tibidabo.es/en/homepage
Visit and walk on the roof of Gaudí's spectacular Casa Batlló:

Always much going on and fun for the kids to watch at central Plaça Reial, just off Las Ramblas: http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...n/placa-reial/
El Born is also close to the Cathedral, La Seu. Your kids might appreciate the thirteen geese in the central courtyard, each of them representing one year in the life of the martyr Santa Eulalia.

Loads of nice restaurants/tapas bars almost everywhere, not least in the Gothic quarter/El Born. Many of them with terrace. My ten year old and normally pizza/taco oriented nephew immediately fell in love with the Catalan cuisine.
La Pizza del Born is said to serve great pizza by the slice: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Catalonia.html
Along the La Barceloneta beach and in the Barceloneta area you will find several good quality and affordable restaurants/chiringuitos, serving anything from spaghetti and burgers to the freshest fish and seafood.

On a rainy day (which you hopefully will not experience) the CosmoCaixa Science Museum should be fun. Especially for kids since it's not an old-fashioned museum, but more a "hands on & experience".

The entrance fee is rather nominal.. around 2-3 euros.
Not sure how much your kids are into "thrill rides", but the cable car/gondola high across the harbor is quite a ride.
The cable car from metro Paral.lel to Montjuic is a short tame climb with some views over the city.
The latter is included in the fare system of the BCN bus & metro network.
In the evenings, the Magic Fountain at Pl. Espanya attracts many spectators and might also be fascinating for kids.

You will be more comfortable in an apartment than a hotel room. Not only more room and separate spaces, kitchen facilities allow you to keep snacks, drinks etc. on hand.
Agree that El Born or Barri Gotic are best areas for a short stay - lots to do within walking distance. Here's an example of a nice apartment there: http://bit.ly/gomfTb
Unless you are really pinching pennies, take a taxi from the airport. Shouldn't cost more than about 30 euros and you won't be trundling luggage down the street.

La Boqueria Market on Las Ramblas (I think they even have a website that gives the history. Largest food stall market in Europe. Amazing, the kids will love it. There are stalls of fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese and best of all, fish. There are so many different kinds of fish! You and your husband will love it also.
