5 really cool things to show kids in Barcelona!
If you only had a day and a half and your under 10 kids are in tow, What 5-6 things would they remember most in Barcelona? Can be cultural or fun...no amusement parks or zoos though!

I remember lots of Barcelona--it's a fantastic city, but for kids what came to mind offhand were Parc Guell and Casa Mila. I believe there's a big amusement part but I steer clear of those places, but I'm sure someone here will know where it is and such.

The amusement park that Artlover mentioned is on Tibidabo, a small mountain on the outskirts of Barcelona. We didn't go there, so I can't give you any first-hand info on it. But I agree with Artlover and JD about Parc Guell - this was one of our favorite sites in Barcelona. Very colorful and imaginative - I think kids would love it, too.

Sagrada Familia; Gaudi anything - block of discord and casa mila; park is ok if weather is good; do they like soccer? if so, take them to the Barca stadium and do the tour - its amazing! maybe a boat ride in the harbor? take the hop on/hop off bus - just sitting up top and listening can be fun and a time to get off your feet! see the magic fountain show after dark if you are there on a Friday or saturday night while the show is going on - its very unusual and fun but quick (like 15 minutes).

There's also an aquarium down at the harbor, and from there you can take a cable car ride out over the harbor. There's also a cable car ride up to the castle on Montjuic with spectacular views over the city and the Mediterranean.

Here’s something for their sweet tooth (and yours, too):
According to the Travel section of today’s “am New York” (yes, that’s the free newspaper that they give away every morning at subway stations and which are used anywhere from unnecessarily over-filling public garbage bins to covering gross and unsightly nocturnal leftovers in subway cars), Barcelona was home to the first chocolate factory in Europe. Hence, located in the trendy Born district at Carrer Commerc, 36, is the Museu de la Xocolata which has exhibits on chocolate through the ages. They even have chocolate sculptors and 3-D versions of some of Gaudi’s masterpieces.

Another great thing: as soon as the weather gets nice, there's like a kind of hippie gathering in the Parc de la Ciutadella on Sunday afternoon. Very nice and lovely and full of kids, and people selling home-made pie and jewelry and doing acrobatics and stuff, could be great fun for them!

I knew you guys could come up with great ideas not simply found in the books! Chocolate, parks, cable cars, "wierd" cool buildings and fountains are all kids idea of fun! I will pack all the ideas and when something falls flat pull out another! thanks! We're going in July.

I lived in barcelona for 5 months and during that time my parents came to visit with my siblings age 8 and 9 and their absolute favorite thing to do in barcelona was walk down las ramblas. There are street performers dressed up that move and the makeshift pet shops are great. We had to pull them away from everything after awhile because they didnt want to leave. Antother great thing is La boqueria market which is off of las ramblas. It is a wonderful market open every day but sunday. it is best to go in the mornings because most of the vendors are open. The kids loved the back section of the market which is where all of the fresh seafood is.
