Barcelona La Seu Cathedral
Is there any chance the scaffolding will be gone from the Barcelona Cathedral by the time I get there on May 15th? I would love to have a lovely picture of the unscaffolded cathedral at night.

We were there last Friday and not only was the Cathedral covered in scaffolding, it also was draped in a sign that indicated the telephone company was sponsoring the restoration. LOL. I couldn't quite tell what stage of completion it was in.

Thanks for the info.! The scaffolding was there when I visited in May, 2005, and I was kinda hoping it would be gone by now, but based on your description I would doubt it will disappear in the next three weeks. Oh well.

What a shame for you Dutchie.
One of my loveliest memories of Barcelona was standing on the square in front of the Cathedral one evening and watching all the locals dancing in big rings. It is a traditional Catalonian dance, I've forgotten the name. It was lovely to see old folks and kids and teenagers and thirty-somethings all dancing together and others joining in, dumping their shopping in the middle of the rings.

The Sardana is the name of the dance.
I've decided that scaffolding is NEVER going to come off the facade..the thing must have been plenty dirty but when we saw it uncovered and were staying in a catehdral-facing room at the Colon hotel it was, in fact, wonderful to look at.
Since then we've actually found the area around the Placa Catalunya to be a more convenient place to stay, however.
