Julie, before I forget, I also recommend you take a look at David Downie's "Food Wine Rome" published just this year. His book on Liguria is excellent and he previously wrote a book on Roman cooking. His latest book is recommendations for authentic Roman eating in all price ranges in all kinds of venues, modes and specialty shops and markets.

I can second "Food Wine Rome" I used it on my trip to Rome last October and the recommendations are very good.
