Location-wise, Avenida, AC Diplomat and Majestic are pretty much the same. Don't know about Diagonal. Have stayed at Diplomat and loved the area, a bit off the all busy Ramblas but easy to walk to. Each time you pass by the Passeig Gracia (sp?), you will look up to admire the Batilo (sp?) House of Antonio Gaudi.

We stayed at the H10 Placa Catalunya.

Fantastic location. Directly on the square with the breakfast room on the 2nd floor (one up from ground) overlooking the Square.

The rooms were not noisy (I geuss ours was in the back.

Just outside the breakfast room was a community computer where you could check your email free of charge.

This has to be the best location. One minute from the Ramblas (but not on it). Two minutes to Passeig de Gracia.

Directly opposite side of the Sq from el Corte Ingles and the airpoty shuttle.

Pick you direction and you're in the middle.

I would stay at the Majsetic without batting an eyelash. Fabulous hotel, great location, and just a generally wonderful place. Do it!

FWIW - I experienced DCC at an H10 hotel last May and they refused to redo the transaction. My daughter is in Madrid and has had the same problem at El Corte Ingles.

My sister is staying at Jazz hotel, a 3 star hotel, this Saturday which is a couple of blocks from Placa Catalunya.

I'm with laclaire,
If your budget will allow, go with the Majestic! AC is also nice and hip but nothing beats the Majestic's perfect location!
