Barcelona and Venice lodging recommendation

How are you, everybody?

Could you reccommend an inexpensive and spotless place to stay in both Venice and Barcelona? I shouldn't pay more than 100 Euros for a double room with breakfast included and I certainly don't mind the location, specially in Venice. I'm planning to stay in each city for a week at the of May/beginning of June.

Thank you very much for your help.

You might want to try tripadvisor or www.venere.com - esp. in Barcelona you may want to check out apartments since you are staying a week. 100E is a little tight for those two cities but you are starting early - that should help. Both Tripadvisor and venere have search features to specify a price point plus reviews of users to help you choose.

we rented an apt in Barcelona from Habitat just last week. There are many other rental outfits.
I don't know what you can get for 100 E , but renting an apt. saves a lot of money - you can cook a few meals!
Since you are staying a week in each place, I would look into that option.

Locanda Orseolo in Venice is fabulous---right next to St. Marks's Square. You get a fabulous breakfast with the rate and the owners will know you names in 30 seconds and call you by your name when they see you. I see their rates are 120 Euro for a standard but if you can splurge, I would highly recommend this hotel.

This might be slightly over your budget, but can try negotiating.

The hotel and it's Annex are in very convenient locations. I stayed in the annex a couple of years ago and would stay there again.

For Barcelona, I think that danon's suggestion of a Habitat apartment might indeed be your best bet. I've checked random dates of May 27-June 4 and see 6 one bedroom options available for under 100 euros a night. For 7 nights Habitat gives a long stay discount, bringing the weekly rental price down to 684.50 for those apartments. And as danon notes, using the kitchen can reap big savings.

Regarding hotels, I think it will be more difficult to find a double room with breakfast included for 100 euros or under.

The usual suspects, the Banys Orientals, the Chic and Basic Born and the Hotel d'Uxelles double rates for '08 are 99,50, 118 and 99 respectively, but don't include breakfast or the 7% vat.

Chic and Basic also has an attic apart. in El Born for 105 euros per night and a studio in the Gothic Quarter for 75.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Suec1 for the venere.com and tripadvisor.com reccomendations.

Thanks Danon for the apartment recommendation.

Thanks Chocolatevanilla for the hotel recommendation in Venice.

Thanks Londonres for the hotel link.

Thanks Maribel for all the links and advice.

Considering all of your recommendations, I think that renting an apartment is the way to go for Barcelona. I'm going to start checking all the possibilities. I checked venere.com and tripadvisor.com and I found an inexpensive B&B in Venice with great reviews.

Thank you guys for your help and advice!

Rooms at Locanda Orseolo at *from* €120, so I think it's highly unlikely that will be the rate at end May/beginning of June. I second Sue C's suggestion of checking tripadvisor + venere.
