Bank Holiday

We will be touring Scotland in August and will be in the Royal Deeside area on a bank holiday. What will be closed? Will castles, distilleries, gardens, restaurants be open?

Nothing really closes on Bank holidays - they are the biggest tourism times of the year so most attractions are open and busy.

There are a few exceptions but not enough to worry much about.

Note that Scotland does not have the same Bank Holidays as England and Wales. Monday 25 August is a Bank Holiday in England and Wales, but not in Scotland.

True - but being a bank holiday south of the border does make things more crowded in Scotland since lots of folks holiday then.

<<< Monday 25 August is a Bank Holiday in England and Wales, but not in Scotland. >>>

But all the banks in Scotland will be closed as they all use English/Welsh bank holidays

Scottish Bank Holidays are now the same as English ones; but they are not necessarily (indeed, they are not usually) public holidays.

In this case, you will not even notice. And if you're around on teh Saturday before, please take time to go to the Lonach Gathering in the next glen.

You will not be disappointed (unless it's raining hard)

a bank holiday in england means a national holiday. A bank holiday in scotland means the banks don't open

No it doesn't - the Summer Bank Holiday in Scotland is the 1st Monday in August but the banks will be open. The banks however will be closed on the last Monday in August even though it isn't a Scottish bank holiday

There's also the St Andrew's Day holiday for which the banks will be open

We were in Scotland last month on the bank Holicay....the banks were closed but nothing else. Busier than usual but it seemed to me most were shopping. The streets were more crowded but that didn't hamper our plans. It was a bit tricky to find rooms also but that worked out wonderfully.
