Bamberg Germany
I have done a search on this board and didn't come up with a lot. We'll be renting an apartment there for 17 days and would appreciate any and all recommendations for places to eat and visit. Thanks!

Bamberg proper is worth a couple of days. Wurzburg, Weikersheim, Coburg, Nuremberg, Rothenburg, the Beer Road (Bierstrasse), the Castle Road (Burgenstrasse), the Romantic Road, Bad Windsheim (open-air farm museum), Iphofen, Weissenburg, Pappenheim, and the Vierzehnheiligen Basilica just north of Bamberg near Staffelstein are all worthwhile destinations you ought to consider for an extended stay in Bamberg.

We ate at the Klosterbraeu and enjoyed a traditional meal there. There's also the Schlenkerla. Here's a webpage with notes and photos on both:

Message: The hotel restaurant is very good, but for change of pace, walk across river under the Rathaus (city hall), just after you get across the bridge on the left is a restaurant called Rathaus Schaenke. Good beers and not too expensive--wife had pork steak with potatoes for 8 euros; I got a sampler with Schweinfilet, Shinken, Bratwuerstchen, asparagus with Hollandaise for 11.50 euro. Beers 1.75-2.50; wine 2.50-3.40 for 1/4 liter. Not bad for being in the center of the historic district, though we were the only non-Germans in the place.
Also the Messerschmitt in Bamberg is an old standby.
