Ballet in London

While we are in London, the Royal Ballet will be performing "Manon" at the Royal Opera House. Any input on the company, location, etc. would be welcome. Generally we get Dress Circle ticket5s at the MET -- would the Balcony or Grand Tier at the Opera House be the equivalent? Tickets for the performance go on sale next week for May -- does anyone know if they sell-out quickly or would we be ok to wait? Thanks
From what I remember of the seating, Grand Tier would be the equivalent. Tickets do sell out quickly, it is just like the Met at Lincoln Center, people buy series of tickets, love the ballet! The Royal is wonderful! My husband lived in London and enjoyed going often, seeing Dame Margot Fontein dance with Nureyev when he was just starting out with them.
As to dress, again, it is like the Met in NYC, you will see all sorts of dress, I prefer to wear a black pants suit and high heels.
Location is in Covent Garden.
Byw-Manon is a lovely ballet

I was fortunate enough to find half-price tickets to the Royal Ballet the last time I went to London though lastminute.com. I booked them through the website (about 5-6 weeks before my arrival?), and they were holding the tix for us at the Opera House the night of the performance. Seats were quite good, and it was one of the highlights of our trip.

Worth taking a look at the site to see what's on offer for your dates of travel.

MHS, copy this into your browser:

http://www.royalopera.org/ballet/index.cfm

It's the Royal Ballet's official site. You can see schedule, casting info, seating chart, etc. Unfortunately, I hear that their online booking is not reliable, so it's best to do this over the phone. And bear in mind that cast changes are common.

They're also doing a triple bill of MacMillan ballets (he choreographed Manon as well) in May.

Prepare yourself for sticker shock -- tickets are VERY expensive.
