backpack child carrier or stroller

Hi,

We are leaving this Thursday on our trip to France and Switzerland with our 1 year old. Was wondering whether to carry a backpack child carrier or a stroller (or both possibly) for our stay in Switzerland. We will be in the interlaken area for 5 days or so.

Thanks in advance,
rajiv

We too have pondered over this question before going on holidays. I would say that definately take the stroller, since it is very useful esp. at airports and if your child can sleep in it when you are outdoors. About the back-pack carrier, at one, I think it may be worthwhile, but our daughter is now two and we would defiantely not be taking the back pack for our upcoming holiday. It also depends a lot on what your child likes and whether you plan to go on hikes or on terrain where strollers would be difficult. Hope this helps.

We bought a really awesome backpack for our daughter before we moved to Germany and wouldn't have it any other way! If you plan on doing a lot of touring of buildings and/or going over rugged terrain there is NO better solution. Our backpack will work until she is 60 lbs so the 150 USD we spent on it has been well worth it and I would recommend it to anyone traveling in Europe!

We took both with us, but that was 11 years ago. I think you can now purchase a combo backpack stroller, which might be even better.
Thanks all. It sounds like the added flexibility with carrying both would be worthwhile.

I went to London in January with my 14 mos old, stroller only. We were there for 10 days so it wasn't that big of an issue, but if I were going for longer I'd definitely bring both. There are places you can't go with a stroller, so a backpack comes in handy, but if your child is like mine, they will be too heavy to carry all day on your back and also they can nap in the stroller far better than the backpack. The Evenflo trailblazer is a small, lightweight backpack that is inexpensive and surprisingly comfortable.
