AVE to Barcelona?
I read somewhere that the hig-speed AVE will soon have a connection from Madrid to Barcelona. Does anyone know if this is open yet, or if it is open, how long it takes?
Also, what's the best way to fly from Madrid to Barcelona and from Barcelona to Granada.
Leaving April 10. So excited I've already packed.

The first part of the new high-speed line is open and AVE trains run from Madrid to Lleida. Trains from Madrid to Barcelona must use the old line from Lleida to Barcelona. The fastest trains from Madrid to Barcelona now take 4 hrs 35 mins. Schedules and fares are on www.renfe.es.

IMHO the train is not scenic.. and depending on the price, i would do which was best for my budget and timing, seeing that the xtra time to get out to barajas early for flight must be calculated in total time/expense.
when you compare numbers, you will be able to make better decision.
remember plane again leaves you outside the city, but in barcelona a very convenient train takes you straight into sants/pl cataluña train station.
there is a metro form madrid to barajas.
beware of thieves on these airport transports( and everywhere) as they seem to enjoy working these lines, especially the metro to barajas both directions.
i have heard numerous stories firsthand.. and believe me.. they are VERY professional.

Thank you. I have decided to fly. I will also take a taxi to the airport as my husband is very susceptible to thieves. I can't get him to stop trusting people. I warned him to beware before we got to Paris, and the first thing he does is disappear with a gypsie. He finally figured out what was happening and found his way back to me. Another happy tale.
