AUTO INSURANCE IRELAND
Looking for conformation about coverage being supplied by a WORLD MASTERCARD. I have been told by my World mastercard company that I can waive the CDW & Theft coverage thru HERTZ(or any other ) and be covered up to $50,000.00. All of the old rules changed Sept 1st. Has anyone rented an auto or van and used their WorldMastercard to waive the CDW and the DEDUCTIBLE being charged by every Irish rental company Thanksble

I used my world mastercard on 9/15. Two tips: bring the print out that you can get from your credit card company about the terms.
And Make sure you decline the theft as well. The car rental agent at Europecar told me that we couldn't waive the CDW and I showed her the paper- and she took it ( i felt like she knew but tried to get us to pay for the insurance.) She then tricked us into getting the theft insurance by telling us mastercard does not cover that. It was 5AM so I wasn't thinging straight and we took it, but the when I read the master rental info I saw that we didn't need it.

I am in Ireland right now. My particular business MasterCard still covers me for up to 31 days of CDW insurance. Each card is different. Call 1-800-MC-ASSIST to find out if your card provides coverage.

According to them, they will only waive the CDW/THEFT coverage if you use a World MasterCard Credit card # whose # begins with #5466. Buy paying with one of these cards the Credit Card covers for CDW /THEFT and a

Great info - thanks. I noticed on their website that they charge for cancellations which I've never seen before. Is that typical in Ireland? (I notice they have cancellation insurance for about $14, though. I'm just a little nervous about the cancellation policy because we are still deciding on an exact travel date within a few days and may not pick it for a while.) Maamtoo, did you buy the cancel. ins?

Don't want to burst anyone's bubble, BUT....
I CERTAINLY hope you aren't planning on that Opel Zafira hauling any more than four adults, and if it's four adults and two children, don't bring ANY luggage.
The middle seat of the Zafira would be tight with three medium sized children, and the third row consists of two 'jump seats' that fold up out of the floor of the only cargo area in the van. It's NOT a BAD vehicle, but it sure won't accommodate seven in any degree of comfort.
Ditto, by the way, for the Renault Megane "Seven Passenger".
There are SOME seven passenger People Movers that WILL accommodate up TO six, but most Rental Companies will NOT reserve a SPECIFIC make or model.
If you have SIX adults AND luggage, you might 'bite the bullet' and reserve a nine passenger model (VW Carravelle / Mercedes Vito, or Equilavent).
