authentic flamenco in seville=help!
well, we have finally made it to Seville! We need a little help in finding gypsy flamenco-really not interested in tourist flamenco-saw that in Madrid. It was lovely and expensive. But, if at all possible, we would like to venture somewhere the flamenco is spontaneous, or at best, not just a tourist show. Suggestions? Gracias!

There are some very good shows there right now in different venues but they are prepared productions. That said there is nothing "touristy" about these artists...Miguel Poveda, Rafaela Carrasco and especially Capullo de Jerez are featured on this schedule on different days...try to get to the ones with Capullo de Jerez at least.

At El Rejoneo in C/Betis 32 anything can happen. Local crowd and real aficionados. Go after midnight. On Fridays you should drop by Casa Anselma in C/Pages del Corro 49 at midnight for the weekly singing of Salve Rociero in praise of the Virgen del Rocío.
You should also try a peña (flamenco-club). Torres Macarena in C/Torrijiano 29 often stages the real thing, some of the very best have been there. Last time in Sevilla I also had a great time at Peña Pies Plomo in C/Dársena 22, close to the Museo de Bellas Artes.
La Carbonería in Calle Levies 18 close to the Cathedral is also a sure bet, althoug it also attracts some tourists.

I just found out that you are extremely lucky!
On the 19th and 20th of June some of the very best would have performances in open air on Plaza del Cristo in the little town Arahal some 20-25 miles south-east of Sevilla. Entrance 5€. Easy to reach by bus. It leaves from the bus station at Prado San Sebastian just outside Barrio de Santa Cruz.
On the 19th Mayte Martín will sing to the fantastic dancer Pastora Galván.
On the 20th Miguel Poveda (have won every prize there is to win and sings in Pedro Almodóvars latest movie) will sing to the dancer Isabel Bayón, one of the three nominees for best female flamenco dancer in 2008.
Both performances at 23h. Quite sure there are buses back to Sevilla after the performances.
Hard to choose which to see, why not both? If I had to pick one, I think I would go and see Martín/Galván on the 19th; I'm dying to see Pastora Galván and I will do so in August in Madrid. But I can almost guarantee that both performances would be an experience for life. I could have travelled from Norway just for one of these events.

we saw a performance here http://www.casadelamemoria.es/. i was really blown away by the performance. it was a small venue and 3 performers - a singer, a guitarist and a dancer. we were fortunate to see maribel ramos http://lazambra.es/ and she was amazing. her performance was so intense, passionate and it felt like her eyes were piercing right through you. i definitely recommend it. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...Andalusia.html
