August in Edinburg

We will be in Edinburg during the Fringe Festival this August but we have not made any reservations. Are we crazy to think we can find something for the 3 of us (16 yr. old son) once we arrive? Please advise if we should definitely have reservations before we go or if it might be possible to find a great deal while there. Thanks.

I doubt anyone ever sleeps on the street. You will NOT get a deal; unless that involves paying double the normal.

Get a booking as soon as you can.

You would be crazy to think you can find something when you arrive. In fact you should have had reservations six months ago. Be prepared to pay top rates - there are NO hotel discounts during the Fringe Festival. My advice is to get on the phone (not the web) ASAP. Sorry to be the bearer of tough news.

I definitely agree w/ the others. Make reservations absolutely ASAP - like day before yesterday.

Also - how long are you planning on staying in Edinburgh? Many places have a 3 night minimum (and raise their rates) in August and have no problem booking up months ahead.

If you can't find anything now, you may want to look somewhere on a rail line outside of Edinburgh (Stirling, Perth, Fife, etc) from where you can take day trips into Edinburgh.
