August honeymoon ?

We are planning an Aug. 24 honeymoon and need some advice please! We'd like to go to Europe, but Greece is hosting the Olympics then, and we've been warned that Italy is unbearable hot and touristy in Aug. Any other Europe recommendations for 2 weeks beginning the 24th? We've been to England/Wales/Ireland already. Many thanks.

Hi

Have you considered Scandinavia?

Actually, Venice and the Tuscany region including Florence aren't all that bad at the end of August.

The Amalfi Coast would be crowded but with sea breezes.

Italy's overcrowded period: the worst is over at august 15th.

France, the Loire castles, the Maritime Alps,...

August is when most of Europe is on vacation, and lets face it, so is most of the US too. So to me,it always feels like EVERYTHING is too crowded.

If you don't do well with heat, go to Scandinavia--most of Europe is not well air-conditioned (as anyone who went this sumemr can attest) and when you're running around trying to see everything the heat can really wear you down. And make you hate the city you're in.

I've found that Berlin is one of the better air-conditioned cities, as are many places in Spain--they're more used to the heat, I guess. There are also plenty of beaches in Spain, Portugal and France that could be a tad crowded but otherwise a lot of fun, and relaxing too.

I suppose it's obvious that I don't do well with heat.

I'd suggest San Sebastian, Spain for part of your trip. Beautiful beaches, great food. One of my favorite places to visit. I'd combine it with Madrid, Barcelona, and/or Paris. It is true, though, that most of Europe will be on vacation during that time, so the big cities will be dominated by tourists.

Hello,

Please consider Portugal; it's a beautiful country and the people are lovely.

We went to Lisbon and Porto Covo (small fishing village with beautiful beaches two hours south of Lisbon) for our honeymoon in August, 1994. We had a wonderful time.

Here's a link for Porto Covo: http://www.mun-sines.pt/turista/e-pcovo.htm

Congratulations and good luck finding your dream destination.
