Attn: "Summertime" and Venice trivia experts

Hi
The last time I was in Venice I picked up from my guidebook or some other source
the name of the campo with the small canal
that Katherine Hepburn fell into while her character was taking photos in the film
"Summertime." I've searched all my notes and my books, and I can't find the reference I'd found before as to the name of the campo.
Does anyone out there know?
The campo was quite small, the exterior of "antique shop" that appeared in the film was physically on one corner of the campo, just next to some steps leading away from the campo. That shop location in actuality was a mask shop last time I was there, don't know if it still is.

it's possible that no one is interested in this except me, but I did find the information last night, so I thought I'd share it
It's campo San Barnaba

Thanks Elaine. I am interested! I am a big fan of Summertime. We are going to Venice for the first time this summer and we will have to look this up.

Elaine - Thanks for solving the mystery of the name of the campo, I had also always wondered myself.

Beth - I thought that the Pensione Accademia (Fondamenta Bollani, Dorsoduro 1058, 30123 Venezia 041/520-6466 phone, 041/522/7045 fax) was the fictional residence of Katharine Hepburn's character. I'm not sure if that means that the Accademia was the actual place but given a different name or that another place was used and given the Accademia's name (?) Maybe someone else out there can clear this up for us.

Yes, I believe the exteriors were shot at the Accademia pensione.
I have this website reference for those who love the film
www.neponset.com/brazzi/summer.htm

Elaine,

There I was in Dorsoduro last March, and I needed to rest for a couple of minutes, so I sat down in a cafe in a large piazza by a canal. There was something very familiar about the vista in front of me. I looked up to see the street sign and sure enough--I was in Campo San Barnaba. Once I knew, I just kept hearing that little boy's voice saying, "Sure lady, I know Campo San Barnaba." And yes, Beth and Julie, the Accademia is definitely where Hepburn stayed in the movie.

One of my all time favorite movies. I'm actually so hooked on travel I find myself choosing movies that are as much travelogs as movies, i.e. Shirley Valentine, French Kiss, Only You, Enchanted April, A Month by the Lake, etc.

This past week we finalized air and lodging in Florence for May 2002. Have an e-mail in to Pensione Accademia and holding my breath that they have a room for us. We have been to Italy several times, but this will be our first time in Venice and it has been my long-time dream to stay there.

Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Joanne

For any interested parties, this film is now readily available on DVD. Paolo & I love to sit around & watch it--we could do that for an eternity!

It was shot at the Accademia, but if I remember correctly, it was called the Pensione Fiorini or something like that in the movie.

It is so nice to find people who feel the same way about things like movies and travel. I have been in love with Rossano Brazzi ever since I first saw this movie. Not to mention 3 Coins in a Fountain. Too bad I never met anyone like him during my travels.

I realise that this is a bit late, but the Pensione Accademia was definitely NOT the location of the Pensione Fiorini. A set was made in Campo San Vio for some of the shots. A balcony shot with Signora Fiorini was overlooking the Rio della Salute, and the shot of the sign for the Pensione was near the Ponte dei Bareteri on Rio dei Bareteri in the San Marco sestiere.
