On a UK keyboard you get the £ sign by holding the shift key down and pressing 3. What does this give you on a US keyboard?

Still can't get the euro sign to work here though.

This is halarious...

I only "previewed" my previous post and with the first preview, the accented "a"s appeared properly. When I previewed it again, "y"s appeared. So I gave up and just shut down my browser. Instead, Fodors somehow posted it so clearly the preview function is not working properly too.

Anyway, I stand behind the comments about character encoding as they are the main buggaboo in getting characters to render properly in a browser window. BTDT w/pages I've authored.

Until such time as powers that be in the Internet go to a better standard for character encoding we'll never see (consistently) euro symbols or other character renderings in text based groups like this.

Um. As to the posting taking you back to where you were when browsing through the list...

Arguably it might be nice if it did that, but, I don't believe it actually ever _did_... If you reply to message #643, well, message #643 is now the most recently posted message and it pops to the top. You just posted something, and it displays you the message that you posted, which is (what _was_ 643, but, what is _now_, message #1.) The right frame always came back to 1. (which is the post you just made).

Is this not so?

Bozo

I think it's the LEFT frame that Elaine is posting to and I have the same experience as her.

Old system: I'm down at 351-400 and click on thread 375. I reply to it. The thread I displayed in the right side frame after I hit reply is the thread i just replied to. But the left hand frame is still showing me titles at positions 351-400 and I can continue working my way down if I wish.

Current system: I'm down at 351-400 and click on thread 375. I reply to it. The thread I displayed in the right side frame after I hit reply is the thread i just replied to. But the left hand frame jumps back up to the first 50 threads. If I want to get back to 351 onewards I either have to click down to it again or use the back button repeatedly - neither of which are ideal.

Kavey

On the other hand, links are back again. They've been introduced and taken away so many times over recent years that I dare not hope they are here to stay!

By posting to, above, I mean referring to.
And onewards should be onwards.
And I should make use of the preview function!

Kavey explained the current predicament perfectly. Hope they're working feverishly at HQ to restore it to the "old" way.

Hit the "back" button on your browser to bring you back to where you originally posted to. Hit it two-three times depending upon whether you edited it or not.

the tip about using the back key was good as I just never thought of that, even if obvious. I agree it is annoying to be put on the first page instead of continuing where you were.

As for the character encoding -- I don't know what the problem is, but I do know Fodors forums are the only place I've ever not been able to use the special character set when posting or writing email. I have used them in other forums. So, as much as I agree there might be some general worldwide internet character standard problem, somehow Fodors is the only place I couldn't use them so there is something they are or are not doing

y bientyt...

This previewed correct once, but not after the first time. I don't think hyperlinks are possible (as hot links) except for thread URLs for some reason

Not a glitch but...
Now that log-ins are required, I wish that there were profiles that were accessable by everyone. I think it would be great to read info like age, hometown, favorite european city, etc. I think this would help to determine whose advise is more likely to match my personality and interests.
Just a thought!!!

Just so the spelling police don't knock my door down... "whose advice" .
I really should use the preview function.
