Hi all,

I'm planning our 2005 trip to the Dordogne region.

My intent is to fly ATL Bordeaux. (We will return from Paris.)

I have 3 choices

1. Air France to CDG, 1 hr layover, AF Regional Jet to BOD.

2. Air France or Delta to CDG, 1:55 hr layover, AF regional jet to BOD

3. Delta to Madrid, 1:55 hr layover, AF Regional jet to Bordeaux.

Travel time is almost identical. I expect prices to be almost identical.

Is 1 hr long enough to make the transfer at CDG?

Is the Madrid airport better than CDG for a 2-hr layover?

I would choose option #2 and I would use Paris as a "stopover". We did that last year, flew to CDG then Bordeaux, flew Bordeaux to Orly, stayed four days the left from CDG.

I'd choose option # 2 as well. A 1-hr layover at CDG is conducive to cardiac arrest.

Definitely option 2 as you can easily spend 20 minutes taxiing at CDG these days-have a wonderful trip and save some red wine for the rest of us?

OK, Option 1 is (as I thought) out.

Any info on the Madrid airport. That flight gets me to Bordeaux a few hours earlier.

The Madrid airport is much smaller than CDG, I think. Also much more centrally located than is CDG. And cab fares are much more reasonable -- 25 Euros or less, if I remember correctly.

Madrid Barajas is a much smaller and far less confused mess than is CDG, but I don't know that I'd trust connection in a city that's not an Air France/Delta/Skyteam hub. CDG is the main hub, so if something unexpected happens and you miss your connection to Bordeaux, there will probably be plenty of other chances to get there. I'm not sure that will be the case at Barajas.
