Athens-Meteora-Corfu

In August 6 of us will be travelling from Athens to Meteora, then on to Corfu. Does anyone know of any good hotels in the Meteora area? Is Meteora close to the ferry port that goes to Corfu? We plan on trying to rent a van to fit the 6 of us (if anyone can tell me if this is possible I would appreciate it, as most cars I saw in Greece were tiny!!) driving from Athens to Meteora, driving to the ferry port, putting the van on the ferry and taking it with us to Corfu. Will we be able to drop the car off in Corfu? I understand it must depend on the company- I have just started to research this any input is really appreciated!!

a

We stayed at the Amalia Hotel in Kalambaka (sp?), it was quite nice. Tel: 011 30 (432) 72 21 6.

As I recall, the drive from Kalambaka to the port to Corfu was a very long drive with many switchbacks thru the mountains. Not my favorite part of the trip, but Corfu was worth it!!

Sue

hi there,
for me it was just the other way round, Sue. The driving trough the mountains was great (have You done a stop in Ioannina?). Pure Greece with less tourists. Corfu was a great disappointment, just rip offs, lots of tourists and less things that makes out the Greece feeling. Driving time from Kalambaka to Igoumenitsa is min 5 hours without breaks.
anyway
have fun
Gar

Gar

I had forgotten about Ioannina! That was a lovely town. It was the switchbacks that seemed to go on forever that I remember best.

I was there in mid October and there weren't a lot of tourists. I found Corfu charming.
