Athens construction

Hi,

I am just wondering if anybody can tell me if the pre-olympics touch up of Athens is all but finished yet.

I know of the stadium roof and road to Marathon, but as a tourist and not a visitor for the Olympics, I am interested in knowing if the scaffolding is down yet around the Acropolis, are all museums re-opened and such.

I also have been having trouble determining the status of the Metro extension to the airport. I had read that it had been cancelled outright, but 2 days later read again saying it was behind schedule. This however was some time ago.

I can't imagine them cancelling it outright having put so much work into it already. Not too mention its benefits post-olympics.

Thanks for any help
derek

We were in Athens a month ago. I think Athena herself will have to intervene if the construction in Athens is to be finished in time. As for the Acropolis, there is scaffolding on virtually everything and I think it will still be there through the Olympics.

Thanks for the link BeachBoi.

Ouch! It sounds worse than I had even thought.

It seems like the Olympics may not be presenting Athens in an entirely favorable light.

Does, anybody know the status of the Metro line to the airport though.

I am still committed to going to Athens, the question is whether to stay in Athens or head out to an island.

Thanks

Go to an island. You don't need much time in Athens no matter how much construction is going on. We had two nights there and one full day to see the sights and it was more than enough.

Hi,
I just have to say that although I really enjoyed the island of Santorini, I equally enjoyed the 4 days I spent in Athens in March, construction and all.
It was a beautiful city, extremely clean in my opinion and the people are wonderful!
The scaffolding on the Acropolis doesn't really detract from the beauty of the buildings at all, as I thought it would. I don't know about the metro, but wouldn't postpone Athens because of that. It was great.
