Astra Hotel - Budapest
Have you stayed there? WOuld like feedback if you have re: room size, location, parking, negatives/positives. The hotel is in Rick Steeves'book but there are very few reviews from travelers on the web (tripadvisor, etc. Many thanks!

Positive reviews from Frommers and UK Good Hotel Guide, including personal recommendations -- you already know that from tripadvisor.
It has only 11 rooms, hence the few reviews.
The location is not bad, from the map -- if you like staying on the Buda side, as some do.
It is, for my taste, a little far from most of the action, except for seeing the Castle -- but that may mean it is quieter.
BTW: You might click on my post of today Budapest vs. Prague for an overview of Budapest, if you are interested....

crystal3706: If you are referring to the Hotel Astra Vendeghaz, it is delightful or at least it was in 1999. It is in the Watertown district of Buda, about a five minute walk from the Szechenyi Chain Bridge and the Danube River and the Castle District is straight up the hill from the Inn. I call it an Inn because it is situated more like an Inn than a hotel. It is in a three hundred year old building and built around a courtyard. The rooms are large, furnished in a beautiful old Europe style and the area rugs and draperies are gorgeous. The staff is friendly and very helpful. There is free street parking and they have a security system that monitors your car 24 hours.
There are no views to speak of. Some rooms look onto the courtyard and others look out onto the street. We made our reservations early and got the upper streetside room that looke out onto a nursury school across the way. We enjoyed our morning coffee watching the children play. We stayed here four days and since we walk everywhere in order to maximize the experience of the country we're visiting, it was a good location for us. We have recommended this little hotel (eleven rooms) on this board a number of times on this Board, but have never heard that anyone has stayed here. We would, again, without hesitation. By-the-way, we got the lead from Frommer's. Have a great trip.

Thanks for the replies. We opted for the Marriott Millenium instead. The price seems reasonable, there was more first-hand feedback available and, given that we will have a car, we also decided that being able to park it conveniently in a secure garage was another plus.
