Ok, I think we are going with Santorini and Spain (mostly Barcelona). We are staying 4 nights in Santorini and want to be close to attractions with amazing accommodations. We are staying 8 nights in Barcelona and want to be centrally located in a nice hotel, but it doesn't have to be "knock your socks off." Any suggestions for either locale would be most appreciated! We are hoping to book this weekend.

In Barcelona try to stay in the area called Eixample. It is nice area but accessible to the sites. Also, if you are there for Saturday night at about 6 PM or Sunday at noon go to the plaza in front of the old Cathedral and join in La Sardana, a traditional Catalan folk dance.

On Santorini, if you want walking-distance access to the best nightlife focus your hotel search on Fira and Firostefani. Use the filter system on http://www.booking.com to find what you like at a price you can afford.
