For the record. Landed at 13:30 on Sunday, cleared immigration, caught taxi, arrived in the Marais at 14:45. Taxi cost 52 euro, all in all, very painless.

Nearly all taxi drivers in Paris speak *some* english.
However having your destination printed on paper is a good idea.
I was with colleagues who wanted to go to the airport and pronounced it in an english way. Driver never understood and it took me some time to figure it out.
Charles de Gaule is not 'Tchawles di goll'.
Have a nice trip.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know how it went. I just got back a few days ago.. we flew from Vancouver ( Canada) to Paris.. arrived at 11.30 am and were at our hotel in St Germain by 1.45.. took the non express RER too. We did use a taxi to get back to airport, and it cost us only 58 euros.
We fly in and out of Terminal 3 usually.. and it has never taken us more then 30-45 minutes to get through immigration and grab our luggage.. its the bonus of the smaller terminal, may be different for those using other terminals.

I had forgotten about this thread. I guess some people do encounter problems that means it takes them a couple of hours to get into central Paris from CDG, but I had the same experience of the travel time from wheels-touching-tarmac to arriving at accommodations to be approx one hour.
