Are you following Scotland's upcoming vote on independence?
Fellow travelers,
Just wondering. September 18 vote is soon approaching. Thoughts? I recently watched this heated debate from Inverness - features MP Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary of the Treasury, and others.

Following it for a while now, it seems all the economic guru's predicting a recession in Scotland and an economic slowdown in the rest of the UK.
I am also concerned about what the visa policies will be post independence of Scotland, would it still be an UK visa to enter Scotland or would one need a Scottish visa? As is the case with Republic of Ireland.

this is like watching some crazy science fiction alternative-reality film, by some crazed director.
Not a film, but Charles Stross has written two books set in the near-future in which Scotland has its independence. Both are most excellent if you like William Gibson's near-future stuff.
Halting State in which MMORPGs commit rea-world crimes: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...X2UHJD6ADXAP42
Rule 34 is interesting in that is looks at the implications of 3-D printing and what happens when [almost] anything can be printed on demand: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...BR6527NJO66CXM
Anyhoo, back on topic.

This is a vote on the principle. If it is for "Yes", the difficult work of settling all the details and passing consequent legislation through both parliaments will begin. The SNP wants it all done and dusted in about eighteen months - that means everything to do with their idea of a currency union (however that's intended to work), passports and immigration, defence bases and the little matter of persuading every other member state in the EU to let Scotland in on Scotland's terms.
I don't think anyone is going to come bursting in to say "The Willow Tea Rooms have been fired upon!".

This discussion really should be on the Lounge (there is currently another thread there on this subject), however...
Sparkchaser - its been promised by the Tories if they win the next UK general election. All the signs are that popular opinion would indeed vote to leave the EU. An independent Scotland on the other hand would seek to retain membership of the EU.
