Thanks, Christina. I just got Metro directions from the the hotel, and they match yours. I have also arranged with Hotel Ungelt for a car to pick me up at a cost of 600 K; my wife is happy, as am I, for that matter.
If it is close to a 1 km walk, that would be difficult to manage with our two suitcases and two carryons.
By the way, apropos all the talk of Prague pickpockets, is there any need to be concerned about physical safety? In some stories on this forum about 3-4 locals crowding around a tourist, ostensibly with pickpocketing in mind, wouldn't this turn to physical attacks in some of those cases, when they realize they have been outsmarted by prepared (money belts, etc.) tourists?

Taking a taxi from either station is the best way to get to the hotel that late. One thing about arriving late in Prague(after 5 PM), the currency exchange window may be closed, so you should carry some Koruna with you. Both times I was in Nadrazy Hlavni, the automatic money exchanger didn't work. There were plenty of unemployed locals offering to help or inviting us to stay at their "B&B". The hotel taxi will wait for you to change money at the hotel if you don't have any koruna. My hotel wouldn't let me charge my car transport to the room as they are separate entities.
Despite the presence of pick pockets, I never felt unsafe in Prague at any hours. Within reason, I don't think you have to wory about being in physical danger even after midnight.
If you plan to stop in Dresden and depart Berlin at 15:32, you really ought to stop overnight in Dresden.

My meaning was that the 1955 train from Dresden main station takes you first to a smaller, safer, station three miles north of the old town in Prague, then to the main station, less safe because of pickpockets, fairly central. The first is Prague Holesovice at 2227, and the next is Prague Hlavni at 2241. I suggest you get off at Holesovice, draw cash if you can from an ATM or cash dispenser, and go to your hotel. The hotel can tell you now by e mail whether to go by metro, bus or tram, and which stop to get off. If you take the metro it will be to Florenc. There you buy another metro ticket, and go to the nearest stop to your hotel. If the hotel advise bus or tram please ask them the number and which stop you get off. They can also say whether you then need a taxi to their door or can walk there. You buy bus and tram tickets at kiosks near stops, and pay a big fine if you have none: inspectors look out for foreigners. So it may well be true that you do best to go by taxi from Holesovice to the hotel. It is little longer than the ride from the main station.
Earlier trains leave Dresden at 1155 and every two hours, and each has a restaurant car and stops at Holesovice.

Hello huntley,
I have just returned from a trip, which included 5 nights in Prague. At no time did we (2 mature couples) feel in danger or at risk of pickpockets or other thievery. We used a taxi from the train station, also the the subway, tram, and even walked across the very crowded Charles Bridge during the peak of the day at its most crowded.
We had also been told to be on the look-out for this sort of problem. I did not use my backpack there, only a purse with a strap that went all across my body, and my DH pinned his pockets.
But it was a non-issue for us. Very pleasant stay was had by all.
Happy travels!
