Are Rome taxis on strike?

I've just heard that Rome taxis are on strike. Does anyone have any info about this or helpful tips?

Just heard from a friend in Rome that they were on 7/15, but she didn't know for how long.

They went on strike on July 2nd. When we left for the airport on July 6th, they seemed to be back on the streets again. So it might be over.

I would strongly recommend contacting your hotel to find out for sure. If the strike is on, you might want to reserve a car to get to your hotel from the airport.

The strike went on during our entire trip. We did A LOT of walking, and did take the bus once, too. You can click on my name and see my trip report for details.

Just came back from Milan. No strike, got taxi as usual--they called it off yesterday. Allegedly now it's pharmacists who are on strike--just don't get sick o'er there... ;-)

Yep, the government backed down, so the taxi drivers are working again. I too read that the pharmacist are going on a walk out as the new government and the PM Prodi wants OTC drugs to be available in supermarkets instead of just in pharmacy's. A friend in Florence is a pharmacist..maybe I can learn more as I should call by the weekend.

And oh!! The attorney's are mad too as Prodi's governments wants to revoke the law that the they have to charge a minimum amount and that also they should be allowed to advertise in the future. The attorney guild is not happy about that at all, as in really not happy, so they have been refusing to show up in court for the court cases for something like the last two weeks.

There is nothing like a mad Italian, lol.

So don't get into legal problems, don't get sick, but if either happens you can get taxi service. Well considering that Italy has the lowest number of taxis per 1,000 population in all of Italy, maybe not quickly.
