It's amazing,,everything old is new again. I didn't like them the first time around and even less today...I'd rather wear a burkah....in fashionable black of course!!!

I finally saw someone wearing a poncho that looked great: she was a beautiful Hispanic girl of about 11, tall for her age, with hair in French braids, wearing jeans, a black turtleneck (uh-oh--someone didn't warn her about the dreaded "banding" phenomenon) and a medium tan crocheted poncho. It was the right length and proportion and she looked absolutely adorable in it. Maybe that's who these things are for!

I was thinking of getting one to use on the plane, instead of a pashmina. They'd be great as a blanket, and I wouldn't have to put it in my hand luggage, just wear it.

Lots of ponchos in Copenhagen this month, but more were knits than woven blanket material, as I recall. Some were very loosely knit, worn more as a fashion accent than for warmth.

Whenever I am in Tuscany, I love to stay at the beautiful Poncho Villa.

Oh, they're in Ireland now - a few weeks ago driving around a deejay was discussing them with his callers, and some of the comments were hilarious. "Horse blankets for fat girls," "if you're with a girl and she's not all that, you can flip it over her head if you see your mates coming," and one that set off a firestorm: "they're great for nursing my son". Gack!

In Florida, at night, very sheer and light..they look good one some people ( thin and tall ones).

Smiley, if your mom knitted it for you, then it was made with love, so yes, you should wear it. I wore my grandmother's orange-with-the-pale-blue-stripe knitted sweater for years! Nothing could be fashionably worse than that, but I didn't mind.

I didn't see them anywhere (I was there Sept 20). Perhaps they will whip them out during the winter, but so far, no. I always see lots of leather coats (long and short styles) and fur coats -- with warm scarves and gloves accompanying them.

I'm sure our Faina was fashionable in Russia in the 70s. I did see a cashmere one at NM whoever asked about one.
