re - "gitty"

Perhaps Alain was referring to the derogatory English phrase "git," which I believe roughly translates to "geek" or "nerd" in Americanese?

We just got back from a tour of France, ending in Paris (Oct 12-23). It was a very enjoyable trip, and Paris was the icing on the cake for us. Everyone was helpful; we called hotels and restaurants and made reservations and got directions, all in English.

Now I will say this - I opened every conversation with 'Parlez-vous anglais, s'il vous plait?' - do you speak english, please - and I always got the answer 'yes, a little' (which is a modest understatement; they all speak it very well!). I've heard that if you just start rambling on in english, expecting them to understand and respond in english, you will get a negative response. I don't blame them - it does not hurt to politely ask them to speak your language, and if you can't learn to pronounce that one simple phrase - parlez vous anglais - then you may deserve what you get.

I would also say, we did not make a point of advertizing our nationality; I think this is a prudent measure at this time - you don't see people walking around with american flags like you do here!

In summary, I'd say the Parisians are the same as always; the current 'crisis' has no bearing.
I just returned from Paris Oct. 15th -24th Had the best trip of my life. The people of France are very friendly and kind people. My first trip to France was this last May. My wife and I traveled by car from Nice to Aix then to Avignon. We were treated like any other person French or not. I don't understand why some think they should get special treatment because they're American or because they're a tourist. I am an American and have met far more rude people in the States than traveling abroad. Back to Paris. yes it's like any big city people are not as patient. The people of Paris were not the same as the people of Avignon. Although I appreciated the warmth of both lifestyles. Obviously, France twice in one year. I could'nt wait to go back. My experience is Parisians will treat you with respect if you're respectful of their culture. Remember that your in Paris, France not Paris, Texas. I had a wonderful time in Paris and the south of France I can't decide which I would rather return to next I guess both! The rumors are CRAP people get with the times it's not 1955!!!!!!
