Apt Location in Wengen

For those of you who know Wengen, does this location sound like an okay place to stay for hiking and going to other towns. comments say its a 5-10 minute walk from the train station.
Apartment 500 m from the centre of Wengen, in a quiet, sunny position on a slope. Shop, supermarket 500 m, restaurant 300 m, bar, bakery 500 m, 7 minute walk to the centre, railway station "Wengen" 500 m, outdoor swimming pool 700 m. Cable car, skisport facilities 500 m, Please note: car-free holiday complex. Arrival via mountain railway. Famous, idyllic, car-free holiday resort with 1'300 inhabitants, on top of a hill, situated at the foot of a mountain, on a plateau with beautiful view, 12 km from Interlaken, 15 km from Grindelwald."

Thanks for your help!

Wengen isn't very big. That description, while probably accurate, could cover half of the rentals there. Travel to other locations will start at the train station. It's a cog railway that takes you either 1) up to Kleine Scheidigg and then either on to the Jungfraujoch or down to Grindelwald, or 2) down to Lauterbrunnen and on to other attractions in the valley (there are a lot) or to Interlaken.

As for hiking around Wengen: I've only done a bit. Stop at the tourist info office in Lauterbrunnen (up and across the street from the train station) and pick up a hiking trail map. There are a lot of good trails. One that I can strongly recommend is the Mannlichen. Take the Mannlichen cable car from central Wengen up to the Mannlichen station. Then hike the trail to Kleine Scheidigg and take the train back down to Wengen (or to Grindelwald). The trail can be a bit crowded and touristy but the views are breathtaking. Whatever trail you take you can't go wrong.

Distance matters, but so does direction. Specifically, how much elevation change is there in getting to the train station? We stayed at a place that was 500m downhill from the station and, over the course of a week, got a little tired of the climb and called a cab several times. If you are in great shape and like hiking with a little elevation change, it would be no big deal. If you are older, or perhaps not as mobile as some folks, it could really impact your stay.
