littlehouse,

What's your budget? You may get better recommendations by mentioning that.

And here's a link to a Paris Notes page on renting apartments. Scroll down the page and on the right-hand side you'll see a list of apartment rental agencies.

yes - doo give us a budget.

Here is another site w/ lots of apartments in Paris that tend to be less expensive than some of the agencies already mentioned. It is sort of like VRBO in that after your first contact through homelidays, you deal directly w/ the owners.

First, full disclosure. We own an apartment in Paris which we won't mention due to the forum rules. These places are not owned by us and are recommendations we make when our place is full.

1. Direct to owner - studios

Our favorite studio:

http://www.perfectparisrental.com/

http://www.vrbo.com/34170

2. Direct to owner - one bedroom

Doug and Mike's apartment on Ile Saint-Louis - you can contact them for more photos, etc. at : [email protected] . We've seen this apartment and it is very nice.

We have a client who has stayed here several times when our apartment was booked:

http://www.wewillalwayshaveparis.net/Home.htm

We haven't seen this directly but have exchanged emails with the owner

http://vrbo.com/98753

3. Two bedroom

1. Direct to owner - two bedroom

We know the previous owners of this apartment (they are from San Francisco, too!) and it is very nice

http://www.vrbo.com/34050

4. Three bedroom loft that is gorgeous

http:/www.loftfactory.net

5. Agencies (we work with two of them and they are great to work with)

recently remodeled by a friend of ours in Paris --> http://www.franceforrent.com/four/images.shtml

Best regards

Bill: Very kind of you to provide such an extensive list from an "insiders" perspective.

I'm looking for something over the holidays and have just finished browsing each of your recommended sites (and sending off a few e-mails). They've been bookmarked, as well.

Thanks again!

I'd like to keep the budget under $1000 for the week. It doesn't have to be the ritz just clean and comfortable with a washer/dryer if possible.

My husband and I stayed in this apartment in the 4th arrondissement in May, and it was great. Great location and the owner was very helpful and easy to deal with.

Check out Kaz's recommendation. I haven't rented from Parisbestlodge, but only because the apartments were not available for my time period. The owner replied promptly, and has received good recommendations on this site.

Okay I've narrower it down to these 5 aparments in Paris. Any opinions as far as location or the company would be gratefully appreicated. If you'd like to vote that would be great too!!

# 2 would be my first choice, followed by # 4 in 2nd place. Did you note that #5 is on the equivilent of the 5th floor w/ no elevator?

I vote for #2. Very central location. #1 is my second choice, but is not so central.

I'm a bit leery of the duplexes, #4 and #5. I can't tell if part of #4 is in the basement.

I think the two by Vacationbyparis are questionable in terms of information and photos. I mean they are not forthcoming and try to hide things, which was my experience with that company. I don't think they list any sizes, for example. IN any case, I think the rue Cler one is awful and extremely overpriced. They don't have hardly any decent photos of it, and the bedroom, so to speak, is barely larger than the bed. The living room is barely furnished. The price is just really high for that. The one near St Honore looks pretty nice -- it has that funky bed in the kitchen which I think is really tacky, but that's what these rental apts do. Try to sleep people everywhere. I would't want to sleep anyone on that. But other than that, it looks a million times better than the rue Cler one.

I like the one on rue Mouffetard best, probably -- I've stayed near there and like the area and it is reasonably priced and looks okay.

I would never rent a ground floor apt myself, don't like them -- but even then, I'd be leery of that duplex thing, also. It's not clear what's on the ground floor, but I think it may be that the kitchen and bathroom are below ground (as there are no windows visible) and the other rooms ground floor. Hard to say.

We've discussed rue PEtit Musc before on here, several threads I think.

Our experience with VacationInParis was excellent. We rented a Marais apartment for a week in September and it was a great place. We'll definitely stay again in a heartbeat. We didn't discover anything that wasn't clearly set out beforehand.
