Apartments in Paris
My husband and I are traveling to Paris for the first time. Since we plan to stay for a week in the city we thought an apartment would be a good way to to do it. I like what I've seen on Lodgis.com but am not familiar with the company. Has anyone had experience with them? If so what did you think? Any other recommendations of companies would be appreciated.

www.parisvacationapartments.com
The third is my favorite, with great renatls in the Palais Royal

Take a look at the reviews of Paris apartments and rental agencies at www.slowtrav.com.

My Mom and I went in May and stayed in an apt in Montmartre that I found on Craigslist. You might have a look there (http://paris.craigslist.org/). The apt we found was being rented by a gentleman in NYC, so the transaction took place in US currency and was seamless
Good luck! Apts are DEFINITELY the way to go!

Okay having never been to Paris, what districts does everyone recommend? I see that a lot of folks pick the 5th and 6th, is that because they are centrally located? So is the 7th district not a good pick? I figured being near the Eiffel Tower would be central, is this wrong?
Thanks so much!! I'm looking at apartments as well so hopefully this will help Flook and I both.

Look a map of central Paris and you will see that the Eiffel Tower is not in the middle.
"central Paris" for tourists really stretches from the Eiffel Tower/Arc de Triumphe on the west, to Ile St Louis/Bastille on the east. The Louvre/Musee d' Orsay are about dead center.
Of course you will go to the Eiffel Tower - but it the 7th is a fairly quiet area and you will be visiting many more sites in other areas.
That is why many people prefer the 4th, 5th and 6th. They are more in the center and you'd be walking distance to many more sites. But there are nice neighborhoods in just about any arr.

Having been to Paris in the past and having stayed in hotels, for our visit in July 2007 we rented an apartment on
Ile St Louis. I would never stay in
a Paris hotel again! Well, maybe the Ritz!
We were lucky to find an apartment overlooking the Seine. We found it through the owner's own site, not an agency.
Email me for the url if you're interested.
Bonne chance!

The 7th isn't a *bad* place to stay - I've stayed there once and it was fine for my needs. It's just that it's mostly residential and was dead at night -- the streets were practically empty, especially compared to the *livelier* 5th and 6th, which are more youthful and energetic, with lots more bars, restaurants, etc. That's why most people recommend 4/5/6 for a first-timer to Paris. But if you want a quiet residential area that is also convenient to sights, the 7th is fine.
