just wondering.....realistically: would there be any apartment rentals for about $80-$100/night in any of the following cities : rome, paris, and london? i'm wondering if this budget is too low and would be better off booking a budget hotel. any advice? oh yes, i will be traveling in sept-oct

$100 is less than 80 euros and abut 63 pounds.
Hotel seems more realistic..but I know people who have stayed in apt. in Paris for just a bit more.

If you are only talking one night for the apartment possibly not, if several days or a week, probably yes.

There are many holiday apartment rental advertisers out there many of whom use websites like - http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/
to promote their premises. A google will find more.

I don't know how many people you're traveling with, but my husband and I stayed at a Vacation in PAris apartment last winter for just $99 a night. For the price, it was terrific.

If you are staying in an apartment in Rome, and your son can sleep on a sofa bed, you can find a one-bedroom apartment for €100, but I am not sure about $100. So it would cost you about $130 by today's rates. If you are willing to live in one room, perhaps a studio apartment. You will have to be a little bit out from the historic center, and take a bus or tram or the metro. Look around the Vatican, or in Trastevere, somewhat out within a few blocks of Viale Trastevere, where you can easily catch a bus. Check www.sleepinitaly.com. They have lots of apartments. You will have more choice if you are willing to climb flights of stairs to your apartment, and not require an elevator.

There is also the Hotel des Artistes, which is a little way from the Termini train station. They offer a variety of rooms, some without private bath. A friend stayed there with his teenaged daughter and thought it was nice -- nothing fancy, though. Some people recommend the Beehive, but I don't know anything about it. You could also check out convents. There are curfews usually there, I understand, but they are adequate, safe, and clean.

The b/f and I are not picky. We just ask that it be clean. The $100 price tag is the max our budget will allow so would I be best just to try and find hotels? I just figured an apartment might be a little more comfortable.

I just rented a one-bedroom flat for one week in Covent Garden for October but it was for considerably more than your budget.

In London if you want a budget HOTEL you might consider looking at the Seven Dials Hotel www.sevendialshotellondon.com or one of the Premier Travel Inns or one of the Citadines Apartments possibilities.

I stayed in an apartment in Rome, just off of the Campo de Fiori for 7 nights for 360E, in March, 2010. At that time the exchange rate was about 1.4 (better now), so I paid approx $72/night. I rented it through VRBO, and it was fantastic.

Check out http://www.homelidays.co.uk/ too... they seem to have a lot more listings in your price range than VRBO. And there are renter reviews on many of the listings.

We like apartments. If you spend $100 on an apartment versus $100 on a hotel room, the apartment can be a better value as you have a kitchen and can have breakfast or lunch inexpensively.

I think you could do it for $100 in Paris, probably in Rome, but probably not as easily in London. Bidding on Priceline for a hotel room works great for London; you can see recent winning bids on biddingfortravel.com

Kaydoll, I must apologize. I was actually at the apt for 5 nights, not 7 (stayed 7 nights in Monticchiello). So, the cost was actually almost exactly $100/night. You can find the apartment at: http://cappellari.cp4web.org

It was small, but modern and in a great location.

For Rome you could check realrome.com for reasonably priced apartments. There might be some studios in that price range. usually apartments are better value than hotels in our experience.
there is another thread going called "budget accommodations in Rome" with some less expensive hotel suggestions.

Hi kaydoll,

remember that you may be able to save in some places so you can "splurge" in others. and you are NOT gonig to find many bargains even now for Rome over the easter period.

we stayed here in Rome - www.lacasadiclelia.webs.com - which even at about €100 per night might be outside your budget, but they do have a studio apartment which would suit. at least they did when we went, I don't see it on the website now, but you could ask.
