oops, just saw that you want sept-oct. is that this year?

you might be able to drive a late booking bargain if you deal directly with an owner, especially if you are staying more than a few days.

It depends on the precise address. A good and a not-so-good neighbourhood are very close to each other there, and the description is so unprecise to include both of them. So I would ask about the address.

hi kay

you're running two threads now, which is a bit confusing!

can I suggest that now you've decided when you're travelling, you post specific threads about each destination?

just trying to help!

for some reason the link doesn't work but if you go on dailyflats.com choose location as rome and organize by price its listing is the first one Apartment AL COLOSSEO in Rome.

if not here is all the info:: it's 70Euros/night
One room luxury apartment located between Colle Oppio and Villa Celimontana , few steps away from Colosseum and Domus Aurea. The recently renewed apartment , is located on the third floor in an ancient and historical building of XVII century.
The building is located inc the historical heart of the city, near the famous street called Stradone because it's against the Saint John Basilica which is beside the coliseum.

Sorry, I can't find it (obviously, I'd have to know also your dates to get the same response as you do). But just inquire, and ask for the precise street address.

Yes, the address is fine, but bear in mind that Via San Giovanni in Laterano is - and is called - Rome's Gay Street.

hehe. that just means it'll be more lively. =D although my b/f might have an aversion to that as he gets hit on frequently by gay men! hmmm...???

...and no. 8 is right behind the Colosseo, so you won't have to walk a long way along Via S. Giovanni.

Hi KayDoll,

I have used www.homelidays.com on a number of occasions for apartments in Rome and Paris. We stayed in this studio last year for 65 euro per night and I thought it was quite a bargain. Very clean and comfortable though it is a studio so, somewhat small.

http://www.homelidays.co.uk/paris-11...o-41802en1.htm

I found an apartment in Rome for around 60 euros per night though it was quite a bit older in style it was clean and very comfortable.

I also used this website for our 2007 stay in Paris. All the owners were a pleasure to deal with and I experienced no problems whatsoever.
These apartments are probably what you might say, on the lower end of the market, but value for money - I thought they were excellent. All were very clean and pretty well located. I hope this helps.

Meant to add that the homelidays website was recommended here on Fodors by janisj - and I thank her as it's been one of the finds of the century for me as I really prefer to spend less on accommodation and more on sightseeing.

This is a link from 2007 so hope it is still valid but Chris - formerly of Scala House, which was well patronised here - found a fabulous apartment for me in London in Soho right behind Oxford Street.
Again, the price was right and the location was great!
