I am capable of doing research, but was wondering if anyone knows of a short term (1 week or less) apartment situation in Paris and/or London that would have an elevator.We'd rather not be on the ground floor, and I have the feeling that most apartments do not have an elevator.

Mari, I am not in the best position to offer apartment advice as I am hunting for my own (fruitlessly so far, I might add) - but I have looked at scores of the apartments and I would say more then a half of them had a lift. So I would not consider a lift in the building an exception so much, it's not unlikely to have an apartment with one...

Almost every add for an apartment with the accepted agencies will tell you if there is a lift.

We stayed in Paris over Thanksgiving at a great apartment in the 3rd arr. I think you can access it at Parisrendezvous.com or through Homelidays.com (property # 88868). It has a very small elevator which was no problem unless you have big pieces of luggage. Bernard the owner was very helpful. It's also close to 2 different Metro stops which was convenient.

oops. I posted the wrong # for the Homelidays property. We stayed at property #33629 in the 3rd arr. The 88868 apt looked good but wasn't available.
Just DO NOT stay at property 24550 in the 4th arr. The owner was a crook and rented to 2 people for the same period. If you use Homelidays.com just be careful to use Paypal or credit card. With Western Union you have less leverage to get money back, and more fees.

I hesitate to recommend any specific apartment since I have no idea of your budget, what style/aesthetic you prefer (very modern or wood beam ceilings?), what kind of neighborhood areas you like -- (busy and up all night or mellow and laid-back?)

But many apartments in Paris have lifts. I like these higher floor apts since they tend to get more natural light than ground level apts. Most people on this board seem quite averse to climbing stairs -- I'm used to it since I live in a 3 story walk-up anyway, but I still like a vacation rental with a lift.

Sorry, I see you actually asked for a specific rec so here's where I stayed. 4th floor apartment in the Marais, very inexpensive, I rented for 5 nights.

Most of the better buildings in the center of Paris have elevators (I've owned apartmetns in three buildings over hte last 30 years, all with elevators), but they are often very small. My experience in London is the same (at least with buildings of more then 3-4 stories)-I lived htere many years ago, and often visit friends at home when I am in town.

Several in London have lifts but they may be very tiny. Here's one agency I use & have several times.
