Anyone think Iberia to Spain is not that bad?
I've read a few threads about Iberia Airlines and the consensus isn't good. They definitly have the best schedule and price for what I want. I don't care about food or seat back movies. I do care about things like last minute schedule changes, strict baggage limits, really rude service (I don't care about perky, just want help if I need it). I know people tend to tell their negative stories - only natural, you want to vent. But I wonder if it's really as bad as it sounds. There are quite afew threads about the horrors of Alitalia and I'd fly them again.
So, if you would fly Iberia again please let me know. Thanks

I fly them for the same reason you are considering them. It is actually a source of contention for my partner and me. He says "never again." I say "it's cheapest...we'll deal with the potential for aggravation."
We only had one really awful experience, which left us in Madrid for most of the day between connections, due to a last minute change. I took a taxi into the city while partner sat in the airport. This might explain our different outlooks on Iberia.
Aside from that, the airplanes are not as shiney clean as most airlines and the employees are not the most cheerfully helpful bunch. Who cares about that though? I sleep through most of the flight and dream of my destination.

I have flown Iberia on every trip to Spain. Last time was in May. The food is truly excretious. Aside from that, I cannot discern any difference in coach between them and any other US or European airline. I will probably fly them again.

I've flew w/ Iberia a couple of times, and no major complains. To be honest, I dare you find an airline that everyone swears by... I've had troubles w/ a lot of different airlines and if I was to consider that, I'd probably never fly again! I think it requires a bit of luck

When things are going as planned, no airline can be that bad. The thing you really want to know is how they take care of things when things happen. Like what happens after they change the schedule or cancel your flight - how helpful are they to accomodate you. Or what happens after your bags are lost.
It's useless to ask for general impression as most people's flights don't get canceled and most people don't lose their bags.

living in spain for decades..i have flown them many many times.
would i fly again?
of course. if i save some interesting amount of money and the schedule is as good or not much worse than other options.. i go with the price.
outside of trying aeroflot and similar airlines,..i am not too loyal and just try to save on my airfare..
flight attendants used to be frustrated models..
the food is no worse than others i have flown.. ususally a good way around that is to order a vegetarian meal ahead of time since they usually pile up fresh fruit, yogurt and salad.
the worse thing is the P/R. but that is a national problem with iberia as the leader.
there are EU regulations in practice so the legalities of late arrivals and overbooking, lost luggage should be similar throughout europe and all its carriers.

Thanks for all your replys. As I said, I'm not really fussy, cattle class is cattle class. But if they have a particularly bad record in terms of late flights, schedule changes and truly awful customer service when those things happen, then it would not be worth the frustration. But hearing that many of you would continue to fly them perhaps I'll give them a try.
Anyone know what their carry on weight limit is - I couldn't find it on their website ( and that alone might tell me something).

We flew Iberia to Italy via Madrid in June 2004. Nothing great about them, but there wasn't anything to complain about either. As far as helpfulness of the employees... well, my experience was MUCH better with Iberia than Air France

I grew up with Spaniards so I am used to "dry" customer service
. That said, Iberia compares with USAirways in customer service, a bit worse food. If the price is right, go for it. There is a much cheaper option out of JFK, Air Plus Comet. This budget airline used to be Aerolineas Argentinas and while they get horrendous reviews as far as customer service, no airline can beat their prices on their daily flights JFK-MAD. That said, I still would not fly them.

Thanks everyone. I just booked it. I'm sure they won't be any worse than anyone else and no one else can fly us as cheaply and as straight forward into Sevilla and out of Granada which is what we want. So thanks again and wish me luck.
