anyone received a free guide book as a gift for their writing
Just wondering---A while ago, when Katie was an editor, many Fodorites reported that received guide books of their choice as a reward when their travel tips, ideas or reports were published in a new guidebook.
It seems Katie is no longer at Fodor's, so wondering if anyone still receives guidebooks. Or has that perk stopped now.
Thanks, have a good day.

Hello, ileen, if you receive an email from Fodor's that a quote of yours was included in a Fodor's guide book you are invited to receive that guide book or one of your choice.
I have no idea if Fodor's is still doing that. I received a guide book some months ago for a quote in a guide book but I never received the other guide book for a quote of mine in a second guide book. I think that was when Katie left Fodor's and guess my response as to which guide book I would like fell through the cracks.

Goos to know Kathleen received a book only 5-6 weeks ago, so maybe Fodor's is still continuing this little reward program.
So, no one knows what happened to Katie?
Miss her. It was good that she used to be in touch with the readers. Now, we never hear from any other editors at all.
How should we tell them we would like them to respond to us once in a while.
Well, have a great day.

I received one for quotes in the San Diego/Southern California guide book. Katie sent me the Carribean 2010, even though I asked for the Italy 2010. It turned out to be a snafoo and later I received the Italy guidebook. I was flattered, but then again my quote was pretty unremarkable.
I told everyone I met that I was a published author! Wow. My life is small.

One more comment:
Was anybody else kind of appalled when they got their guide and read it? It the Fodor's guide to "Italy" I received, there was no Sardegna! None! Not at all!
The comprehensive guide to Europe has almost nothing of substance in it.

No I was not "appalled". But I do agree the quotes they pick are the most generic kind of advice. The tamest thing you've ever written. They aren't into substance, rather little diddy kinds of advcie that will not go out of date, cannot possibly be incorrect, and will not offend anyone.

I received the Guide to Italy maybe last Sept. Then received an email in Oct-Nov offering me the Great Britain guide or another choice. I answered that email and just recently followed up as I never received the 2nd guide. Oh well.
